Broadway Series South and the team led by Jim Lavery have outdone themselves once again, bringing to Raleigh a production that exceeds any found on Broadway!  Jersey Boys traces the formation and rise to popularity of The Four Seasons, linking all the greatest hits you love to hear into a real story of music, friendship, love, hard times, and what it means to “come up together from the neighborhood.”

The show includes 33 songs of The Four Seasons, including “Earth Angel,” “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night).” Joseph Leo Bwarie (Frankie) lights up the stage with his impeccable voice, topping the original Frankie Valli.    He is backed up by an energetic and multi-talented cast — who sing, act, dance, and yes – play their own instruments!  (One cast member mentioned playing the guitar was a big part of the audition.)  It is clear they love what they do, and the audiences love them for it

While some of the language is a bit colorful for younger theatre-goers, and there are a few lines which may make your granny cringe, it’s all part of the authenticity of the “Jersey hood”  and the way life was “back in the day” for poor Italian-American kids from the wrong side of the tracks.

The Broadway production was recognized with multiple Tonys and a Grammy in 2006.  Having seen the production in New York during its opening year, it deserved every award.   If there were a Tony Award for a touring company, the cast performing at Raleigh’s Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts through July 18 would win multiple times over!   This production puts the “energy” into Progress Energy Center.

It’s clear — there is no need to visit the Big Apple to see the Best of Broadway….it’s right here through July 18 at the Progress Energy Center.  “Walk Like a Man” to the box office or visit www.broadwayseriessouth.com and get your tickets now.  You will leave the theatre singing and dancing!

And don’t forget to bring a bit of Jersey home with you.  The official soundtrack CD is available before and after the show in the lobby – it will have you singing for months to come!
