TURBULENCE: A MOVEMENT-BASED THEATRE ANNOUNCES
Auditions for The Insanity of Mary Girard
By Lanie Robertson
Summary: In 1790, Mary Girard is committed to an asylum. Having become pregnant by another man, her husband has had her declared legally insane. Mary sits in a chair as the “furies” dance around and impersonate people from her past.
The Insanity of Mary Girard is an extremely provocative script and may not be appropriate for younger children. Parents are advised to become familiar with the script before letting a minor audition. Portions of the script are available online at Google books and numerous versions of the play can be viewed on YouTube. Note that some of the stronger language towards the end of the play will be cut from our performance.
Audition Dates and Location: August 22, 2009 from 4pm – 6pm, Call backs August 23, 2009 from 1pm -3pm at North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre (7713 Lead Mine Rd, Raleigh, NC)
For Auditions: All women auditioning for the furies need to wear loose clothing and be prepared to move. Dance experience for these roles is helpful but not a requirement. Everyone needs to be prepared to perform a one-minute dramatic monologue. Please bring a resume and headshot if you have one.
