Raleigh Dance Theatre Observes Observes 25th Anniversary with Gala Performance and Celebration | Mar 20

Mary LeGere, Artistic Director, announces the Spring 2010 season of Raleigh Dance Theatre (RDT).  RDT celebrates it 25th anniversary season with special Gala performances on March 20, 2010 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. RDT’s 25th Anniversary Gala performances will feature alumnae who have gone on to professional dance careers performing alongside current RDT dancers, with most alumni performing in the 7:00pm performance. The alumnae include Laura Bowman, Pennsylvania Ballet; New York based dancer, Jessica Higgins; and Ashley Hathaway and Sarah Newton of Carolina Ballet. Choreography for the Gala will feature several RDT favorites as well as new works including a piece choreographed by Carolina Ballet soloist Margot Martin and a new work by Mary LeGere to the music of Pulitzer Prize winning composer Robert Ward. Performances will be held in Fletcher Opera Theater at Raleigh’s Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. General admission tickets for all performances are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Group rates are also available.

As part of the weekend celebration RDT has planned an alumni gathering Friday evening, a gala party on Saturday following the performance, and an alumni ballet class on Sunday.

Raleigh Dance Theatre was founded in 1984 by Ann Vorus to provide pre-professional performance training, while promoting and fostering the art of dance in the community. It is an honor member company of Regional Dance America/Southeastern Regional Ballet Association.  RDT’s training program has a proven record of success, with alumni who have gone on to professional careers with Pennsylvania Ballet, Dayton Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Carolina Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet and the New York City Ballet among others.
