The 13th annual Play with the Pros is right around the corner!  On Saturday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m., this concert will kick off the North Carolina Symphony’s Summerfest Concert Series. This unique event offers area musicians the opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra in a setting unmatched anywhere in the state.

Orchestral parts open to the community will include Violin I and II, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute or Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, and Percussion.

The Play with the Pros 2010 Program will include:

  • Rimsky-Korsakov: Procession of the Nobles from Mlada
  • Suppe: Overture to Light Cavalry
  • Sibelius: Finlandia

Play with the Pros Registration:

When registering to participate, please complete the attached form and return via email to sarah.preston[at]townofcary.org, or mail to Town of Cary-PRCR, Attn: Sarah Preston, PO Box 8005, Cary, NC 27512 no later than Friday, April 16 at 5 p.m.

Play with the Pros Selection Process:

We will hold a public lottery to select this year’s Play with the Pros participants on Saturday, April 24 at the annual Cary Performs event (now a part of the Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival). (More on Cary Performs on the bottom of this email.) Different instrument parts will be selected and posted throughout the day. You do not have to be present at the drawing to be eligible to participate; however, your presence is strongly encouraged.  Those selected will also be notified the week of April 26.

Once Selected:
Participation is FREE for all Cary residents. There is a $5.00 non-refundable fee for non-Cary residents due at the time selected participants pick up their music. Further details will be emailed to participants following the lottery selections.  Participants will be required to pick up information packets at the Town of Cary’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources front desk located at Town Hall. These information packets will include details about the concert and sheet music. A rehearsal will be scheduled the morning of the concert; however; participants are still expected to practice on their own.

I hope that you will share this information with other musicians that may be interested in this extraordinary opportunity.  Even if you are unable to perform, I hope you will be able to attend. The concert represents a wonderful opportunity to hear this North Carolina musical treasure.  Mark your calendars now to join us.   1. How about a lottery pick for a guest conductor for this event ? Since our Orchestra consists of pro players they should have no trouble keeping up……….( as long as they end at the same place :) Maybe the guest conductor could even pick a favorite tune such as a Ralph Von Williams piece
