The ArtsCenter will present An Evening of Enchantments, starring Chapel Hill magician Joshua Lozoff and Los Angeles-based magician Micah Cover, on Nov. 11-14 in its Earl and Rhoda Wynn Theater in Carrboro, NC.
According to The ArtsCenter:
“An Orange County-based magician, Joshua Lozoff has performed magic around the world. He has shared his magic with everyone from CEOs to prison inmates. In 2005, he performed at the World’s Fair in Japan where he entertained fair visitors from around the globe. His one-man show, Joshua Lozoff: Beyond Belief broke box office records by selling out every single performance, garnered rave reviews, and ended up on several ‘Best Theater of the Year’ lists. Joshua’s work explores the mind, intuition, and interconnections — [p]lus he does really fun things with small foam balls!
“Joshua [Lozoff] says, ‘The most beautiful thing about magic is how it can appeal to everyone. And if I do it right, everyone has a few moments in time which transcend our ordinary reality. Moments of awe, of astonishment, and just a flat-out fun time.’
“Micah Cover, formerly from Raleigh and now a regular at the famed Magic Castle in Hollywood, will be sharing his acclaimed ghost story-themed magic performance for the first time on a North Carolina stage. Micah is a past vice president of the Hollywood Chapter of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, who named him Magician of the Year.
“In addition to performing magic at the Magic Castle, Micah has performed Tarot readings and his mentalism act at the Hollywood Cemetery, the N.C. Museum of Life and Science and on the Queen Mary, the world’s most famous haunted ship.
“‘I can’t believe I get to share the stage with one of my friends and inspirations, Joshua Lozoff,’ says Micah [Cover]. ‘He is one of those rare things in the world of entertainment — a formidable talent and continual commercial success — while never compromising his art. I’m honored to be associated with his work.’
“‘I’m thrilled to be sharing the stage with Micah,’ Joshua [Lozoff] states. ‘He’s a very talented magician and a great showman. I’m just concerned that Micah and me sharing the stage might be too magical and too much fun for the audience to handle. Folks, you’ve been warned!’
“Joshua [Lozoff] and Micah [Cover’s] styles may differ, but their perspectives on magic perfectly complement each other. The show will be a very special opportunity to see two bright lights in the world of magic put their unique spin on the art. Joshua and Micah blur the lines between reality and illusion, using ordinary objects and extraordinary mental abilities to bring mystery and astonishment to everyone.
“About Joshua Lozoff: Triangle native Joshua Lozoff has been studying and sharing magic around the world for the past decade. He performs at private parties, public shows, corporate events and the occasional maximum-security prison. Before turning his attention to the conjuring arts, Joshua was a professional actor, most notably in a recurring role on ‘Cheers’ and in the film Clueless. Joshua [Lozoff] returned to the Triangle in 1996, and he began to devote more time to service work, including volunteer stints in Guatemala and Bolivia. It was during his travels that a chance encounter with a street magician sparked a new passion, and Joshua began his studies in the art of magic….
“About Micah Cover: Micah [Cover] has been studying magic since the age of eight and is now a professional performer, teacher, lecturer, writer and producer in the art. He has performed for the LA Dodgers, Jane Fonda, Academy Award-winning director Anthony Minghella, magicians Max Maven and The Guinness Book of World Records, ‘Fastest Hands Alive,’ magician Jeff McBride. Micah is a graduate of the famous School for Scoundrels, where he studied under acclaimed magicians Whit Haydn, Chef Anton, Doc Eason, and Bob Sheets. He is thrilled to come home to North Carolina….”
