The Durham Performing Arts Center will present country stand-up comedian and actor Rodney Carrington, the self-proclaimed king of middle-class comedy, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23rd, in its 2,800-seat, state-of-the-art theater, in the American Tobacco District in downtown Durham, NC.

According to the Durham Performing Arts Center:

“‘Nothing is better than the energy you feel when people come together at DPAC and the room fills with laughter,’ said DPAC general manager Bob Klaus. ‘Rodney Carrington’s trademark black cowboy hat, boots, and Texas twang will bring a flair of country comedy that Triangle audiences will love.”

“Rodney Carrington is a multitalented comedian, actor, and writer who has recorded eight major record label comedy albums, selling over two million copies. Two of these albums have been certified gold by the RIAA [Recording Industry Association of America].

“[Carrington] starred in his own TV sitcom ‘Rodney,’ which ran for two seasons on ABC. He co-wrote and co-starred with country super-star Toby Keith in the feature film Beer for My Horses [2008]. He also co-starred in the hit music video by Trace Adkins, ‘I Got My Game On,’ which won three awards on the 2008 [Country Music Television] Music Video Awards, including Male Video of the Year and Video Director of the Year for Michael Salomon. Rodney [Carrington] was nominated for, and won, the category Supporting Character of the Year for his role.

“[Carrington]’s popularity derives, in large part, from his closeness with his audience by staying true to his Texas roots. He has been a Pollstar Top 100 grossing concert act since 2001, reaching #28 in 2003. According to Pollstar Magazine, Rodney [Carrington] was the fourth-highest-grossing touring comedian in 2009. He regularly performs to sold-out crowds across the U.S. and Canada….”
