Opera Lovers, Take Note!

The Triangle’s 2011 fall social season will kick off on Saturday evening, September 17, 2011 with North Carolina Opera’s Gala, our largest fundraiser of the season. Set in the luxurious, internationally-recognized Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NCO’s inaugural gala promises to be one of the most talked about events of the year.  This vibrant evening will include lively entertainment, performances by noted opera singers, fantastic food, a live and silent auction, and much more.

A brother and sister live in a fantasy world, a “game” of their own imagining. Friends from the outside world try to enter, and the harmless game turns into a fierce and tragic struggle. This beautiful and haunting piece is newly directed and choreographed by Robert Weiss, and features a quartet of young singers along with dancers from Carolina Ballet. We celebrate the 75th birthday of one of America’s most popular composers, whose work includes opera, symphony, ballet and film (The Hours, No Reservations, The Thin Blue Line, Kundun, among others).

North Carolina Opera was formed in 2010 from the merger of Capital Opera Raleigh and The Opera Company of North Carolina. It is dedicated to presenting operatic performances at the highest level throughout the Triangle.
