Little Green Pig's production of Tony Perucci's "Donald" debuts on Jan. 26-28 and Feb. 2-4 and 9-11 at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham, NC

Durham, NC-based Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern will present the world premiere of Donald, adapted and directed by Durham dramatist and teacher Tony Perucci from Eric Martin and Stephen Elliott’s provocative 2011 political thriller about controversial U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, on Jan. 26-28 and Feb. 2-4 and 9-11 at Manbites Dog Theater in downtown Durham.

The adapter and director of Double Indemnity: A Poem of Tabloid Murder (2008), The Activist (2010), and Eating Animals (2011) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Perucci is an assistant professor of performance and cultural studies in the UNC Department of Communication Studies.

On its website, Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern asks:

“What if a former U.S. defense secretary who condoned the use of torture to extract information was himself extremely rendered and tortured by his own methods?

“By turns comic and harrowing, Donald is a beautiful, disturbing mediation on what to do with ‘war criminals,’ even if they could be brought to ‘justice.'”

In addition to adapter and director Tony Perucci, the Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern creative team for Donald includes designers Alex Maness, Dana Marks, and Rick Young and stag manager Shelby Hahn.

The production is underwritten by Matt Zafirovski and sponsored by the Duke University Department of Theater Studies (http://theaterstudies.duke.edu/) and North Carolina Stop Torture Now (http://www.ncstoptorturenow.org/).
