American Dance Festival Opens This Week
The 2012 American Dance Festival opens this Thursday and will present four incredible performances each weekend during the month of June at DPAC.
The 2012 season opens on Thursday, June 14 at 7 pm with an exciting one-night-only performance of Doug Elkins & Friends’ Fräulein Maria, a hilarious rendition of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s timeless musical, The Sound of Music, that has delighted audiences across the globe with its brilliant humor and imagination.
As a company of widly talented dancers, Stephen Petronio Company presents powerfully provocative dance works that synthesize new music, visual art, and fashion. They make their ADF debut Friday and Saturday, June 15 & 16 at 8 pm with Petronio’s breathtaking UNDERLAND, a vividly surging dance inspired by the bittersweet songs of Australian songwriter, Nick Cave.
Following a rave reviewed performance at the 2011 ADF Gala, Scottish Dance Theatre returns to the ADF for their US full company debut Friday and Saturday, June 22 & 23 at 8pm. They will present 2 US premieres, DOG and Lay Me Down Safe*, along with a 2011 ADF audience favorite, Drift.

As a repertory company with unparalleled versatility, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago remains one of the most original and forward-thinking contemporary dance companies. On Friday and Saturday, June 29 & 30 at 8pm they will present an incredible repertoire of works including Twyla Tharp’s Scarlatti, William Forsythe’s Quintett, and Sharon Eyal’s Too Beaucoup.
Additionally, Hubbard Street 2 will present Harold and the Purple Crayon: A Dance Adventure on Saturday, June 30 at 1pm as part of ADF‘s Children’s Saturday Matinee series.
