Ghost & Spice Productions will open its 11th and final season with a gala production of Colin Higgins’ 1983 stage adaptation of the classic 1971 film of his delightful dark comedy Harold and Maude, directed by Hal Ashby from a screenplay by Colin Higgins, based on his own 1971 novel, on Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 4-7 and 11-13 at Common Ground Theatre in Durham, NC.
According to Common Ground Theatre:
“Ghost & Spice Productions [is] a long-running member of the rich and vibrant Triangle theater community …. For the first time in the area, viewers are invited to come see what the critics describe as ‘morbidly funny,’ ‘doggedly eccentric,’ and ‘immensely comic.’
“The cast of Harold and Maude features Joan Darling [as Maude], Ishai Buchbinder [as Harold], Melissa Lozoff, Jeff Alguire, John Murphy, Raven Whisnant, and Rus Hames. Company member and managing director Rachel Klem directs the hilarious cult comedy about the young, rich, and death-obsessed teen (Harold) that meets the lively septuagenarian (Maude) at a funeral.
“‘Ghost & Spice is very excited to be working on the stage version of this iconic, cult film,’ says director Rachel Klem. ‘It gives us a chance to stretch our technical wings by staging the five mock suicides, as well as focus on strong relationships and top-notch acting. This is our last season, and we will certainly be going out with a bang, so don’t miss it!’
“With its ‘small but mighty’ approach to theater, Ghost & Spice Productions puts special emphasis on high standards of acting and directing while minimizing production costs. Its rich storytelling brings audiences varied, engaging, and affordable professional theater.”
Ghost & Spice Productions presents HAROLD AND MAUDE at 8 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29, 2 p.m. Sept. 30, 8 p.m. Oct. 4-6, 2 p.m. Oct. 7, and 8 p.m. Oct. 11-13 at Common Ground Theatre, 4815B Hillsborough Rd, Durham, North Carolina 27705.
