Daniel and the Lion
Live at Kings Barcade, August 31 @ 8:00pm
Preview by Mark Alan Peterson, August 24, 2013
Kings Barcade offers the Triangle a very special night of music on Saturday of this Labor Day weekend. Headlining the event is an album release show for local band Saints Apollo, an acoustic quintet that specializes in tasty indie-pop flavored songs. On the same bill is another accomplished local artist, Chris Hendricks, and Nashville based Daniel and the Lion.
Daniel and the Lion are the duo of Jimmie Linville and Daniel Pingrey. Linville is lead vocalist and acoustic guitarist, while Pingrey plays piano as they tour in support of their recent EP Final Night. The opening cut, “No Ghost”, an indie/pop number that could easily crossover to mainstream, if given the chance. “No Ghost” is stylistically consistent with previous recordings from Daniel and the Lion. The second track, “I’m Your Man”, may jolt some listeners back to the sixties, the days of Sam Cooke and early R&B. The extraordinary level of sophistication in composition and arrangement of “I’m Your Man” and the remaining two songs of the EP indicate a pop duo on the rise. Final Night, available on Rotown Records, also features producer Daniel McMahon providing some tasty guitar solos.
This appearance of Daniel and the Lion at Kings Barcade will be very unique in that they will be accompanied by two members of Saints Apollo. For the first time ever and the only time on this tour, Daniel and the Lion will be able to perform earlier work with strings, as they were originally recorded. The show is open to all ages and will kick off a very special evening that includes Durham’s own Chris Hendricks Band and the album release of Saints Apollo.
