There are a lot of very gifted, very seasoned pageant girls out there- girls who work hard and win lots of titles. But, as we all know, sometimes a new girl just has “it”- that special spark that allows her to come in and sweep a whole pageant. That’s what happened to pageant newcomer Kayleigh Elizabeth Collett, who took the 2015-2016 Grand Majestic title at the Little Miss and Teen Miss Johnston County pageant on February 21.
To be fair, little Kayleigh wasn’t COMPLETELY new to pageants. She competed in the Benson Elementary Pageant two years ago and took home “Miss Photogenic.” It wasn’t until recently, however, that she graced the stage again at Southern Elegance Charm’s (SEC) Cupid’s Cuties pageant, where she was thrilled and delighted to be named queen of her division. After her win, her parents helped her practice her modeling routines every night. “My mom and dad rearranged the living room to look like a stage,” Kayleigh explained with a smile.
Elated with her division title from the SEC pageant, Kayleigh was excited to compete at Little Miss and Teen Miss Johnston County but was more than surprised when she was crowned Grand Majestic. In fact, the mark of a true newcomer, Kayleigh had no idea that when she got “third runner up” in her division, it was because she’d been bumped for a higher title. “It felt good,” Kayleigh says of her big crowning moment, “I was very surprised when I heard my name called.”
Moving forward from her big win, Kayeleigh is ready to compete at the state level- at the Little Miss and Teen Miss North Carolina pageant, to be held in August this year. She plans to do a few more practice pageants before then, and she’s already been spotted representing her title. She sang- a hidden talent- at the Little Miss and Teen Miss Roanoke Valley pageant held February 28.

Aside from just making the standard appearances at pageants, Kayleigh hopes to do a lot of good with her local title. “I want to go to nursing homes and read to the patients or just visit with them. I enjoy being around people and helping people so I hope to be able to do that a lot this year,” Kayleigh said.
It sounds like Kayleigh, who looks up to Miranda Lambert and who says her favorite thing about pageants is “getting my hair and makeup done by Mrs. Amber Miller,” has an exciting and very productive year ahead. We look forward to seeing big things from this pretty little pageant girl and wish her congratulations on her big win!
