Finalists to Perform at Six Sundays in Spring concert series

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (January 19, 2015): Move over, American Idol: Wake Forest Arts is looking for local talent to perform at its signature Six Sundays in Spring concerts.

As part of its 25th Anniversary Celebration, Wake Forest ARTS is announcing Wake Forest Has Talent!, its first-ever talent competition. Designed as a showcase for the myriad of talent in the area and a fundraiser for the organization, the group is inviting performers of all ages and genres to enter the competition.

“We’re excited to launch this inaugural competition during our 25th year,” said Mary Petretich, president of the board of Wake Forest ARTS. “We think it’s a great way to give area performers a chance to show off their talents. So whether you’re a singer, a band, a juggler, or a comedian — we want to hear from you!”

The competition will begin with performers submitting videos to Wake Forest ARTS. Contestants simply upload their audition video to YouTube, and send the link to: The deadline for submissions is midnight EST on March 31, 2015. A jury of arts professionals and Wake Forest ARTS board members will select finalists from the videos submitted. Finalists will be notified by April 15.

Wake Forest Has Talent! is not limited to residents of the Town of Wake Forest. The contest is open to any performer or group who is able to perform live during one of the first five concerts in the Six Sundays in Spring concert series (April 26 – May 24). Wake Forest Has Talent! finalists will perform prior to the professional musicians who take the stage at 5:00 p.m. These concerts are free to the public and held at E. Carroll Joyner Park in Wake Forest.

Audience members will vote for their favorite contest finalists via the online fundraising site, “Crowdrise”. Each finalist will have their own page on the site and supporters will cast “votes” for $1 each. Voting will begin on April 24 and will close at midnight on May 24. The performers or groups that earn the most votes (and money for Wake Forest ARTS) will be named the winners. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finalists.

Competition rules and deadlines

Wake Forest Has Talent! is organized and managed by Wake Forest ARTs, whose mission is to support and enhance a strong, vibrant community through the development, promotion and coordination of arts and cultural activities.

Who can enter?

  • Anyone who wants to perform in front of a live audience. Talents include, but are not limited to: singers, solo musicians, bands, orchestras, comedians, poets, jugglers, acrobats.

  • Contestants do not need to live in the Town of Wake Forest, but they must be able to travel to Wake Forest, at their own expense, to perform if selected as a finalist.

  • Contestants can be any age, as long as they are able to perform at an outdoor venue in Wake Forest between the dates of April 26 and May 24, 2015. Contestants under the age of 18 must have a permission letter signed by a parent or guardian.

How to enter:

  • There is no cost to enter.

  • Contestants create an audition video that is five minutes or less.

  • Video entries must be uploaded to You Tube with the link emailed to Emails must include names, address, contact information (phone and email), and any other information you wish you share with the judges.

  • Only one entry per artist or group. Multiple videos for the same performers will not be considered.

  • Links to videos must be received by midnight on March 31, 2015.

  • All materials submitted become the property of Wake Forest Arts.


  • Wake Forest ARTS Board members and local performing arts experts, selected at the Board’s discretion, will do the initial judging to determine the finalists.

  • All video auditions received by the deadline will be reviewed between March 31, 2015 and April 10, 2015. Finalists will be notified by email no later than April 15th.


  • Finalists will be scheduled to perform at ONE of the first five of Six Sundays in Spring Concerts, prior to the 5:00 p.m. headliner. Six Sundays in Spring concerts are held on Sundays at E. Carroll Joyner Park in Wake Forest from April 26th through May 31, 2015.

  • Wake Forest ARTS will work with each finalist to schedule their performance at a mutually agreed-upon date.

  • The number of finalists performing at each concert will depend on the number of entries received, and the number of finalists selected.


  • Winners will be determined by audience “votes” using the online fundraising platform Crowdrise. ( $1 = 1 vote. The performers that get the most votes and raise the most money for Wake Forest ARTS win the contest. Votes can be made during the live performances or any time voting is open (April 15 – May 24th at midnight).

  • Anyone can vote, and finalists will be encouraged to invite family, friends, and supporters to help them win.

  • The top three fundraisers will be considered the winners.


  • Prizes will be awarded to the top three fundraising performers.

  • Each of the top three fundraisers will receive 50% of the money they raised for Wake Forest ARTS. For example, if Contestant A raises $1,000 for Wake Forest ARTS on Crowdrise, she’ll receive a cash prize of $500.

  • All money raised for Wake Forest ARTS through this contest becomes the property of Wake Forest ARTs. Contestants who are not one of the three finalists will not receive any of the proceeds from the contest.

  • April 15: All finalists will be notified of their selection via email.

  • April 16-22: Wake Forest Has Talent will schedule the finalist’s performances for Six Sundays in Spring. Finalists will be assigned one of five Sundays.

  • April 26, May 3, May 10, May 17, and May 24: First five concerts for Six Sundays in Spring.

  • May 25: Top three fundraisers and contest winners are announced.
