Burning Coal Theatre Company has hired Jorie Slodki as its Director of Education in preparation for the upcoming school year. Ms. Slodki will take charge of Burning Coal’s acclaimed educational programs, including such in-school residency programs as ShakeScenes and WillPower! She will begin by directing a production of Henry V for Coal’s summer high school conservatory program in July. In September, she will teach a playwriting class for adults.
Ms. Slodki previously worked as student life coordinator for the Shulman Hillel at the University of Iowa. She was also the theatre editor for Little Village Magazine in Iowa City. She received her MA in Theatre Research from University of Wisconsin-Madison and BA in Theatre/Anthropology from Indiana University. She also has a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from University of Iowa. She has presented papers at the Midwest Pop Culture Association Conference. Her past directing experience includes productions of The Diary of Anne Frank, Brooklyn Boy, Women’s Minyan, and The Shape of Things. She is originally from the Chicago area.
