Twin City Stage will hold auditions for the musical comedy, Swingtime Canteen, on Monday, August 31 at 7 pm at the Arts Council Theatre, 610 Coliseum Drive, Winston-Salem. No appointment is necessary.
It’s 1944 and movie legend Marian Ames and her gal pals from the Hollywood Canteen are heading to London to entertain the troops. Laughter, tears, air raids, and a celebration of women during the war punctuate this hilarious (and true!) story. Songs include “I’ll Be Seeing You”, “Sing Sing Sing”, and a fast-paced, 12-song Andrews Sisters medley. The New York Times called the musical “An exuberant excursion back to the days of World War II! War may be hell, but at Swingtime Canteen it’s still a lot of fun.”
Gene Johnson will direct the production, with music direction by Steve Bradford. There are roles available for 5 women, ages 20-55. Actors are asked to prepare a song and bring along sheet music in the correct key. A cappella and CD sing-alongs are also allowed. For these auditions, the director would prefer to hear songs from the era (early 1940’s). Rehearsals will begin September 21.
Swingtime Canteen performance dates will be November 13-15 & 19-22, 2015. All performances will be held at the Arts Council Theatre. For more information, please call Twin City Stage at (336) 748-0857 x209 or visit the website at www.twincitystage.org.
