Heart and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Heart and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

@ Walnut Creek Amphitheater, August 10th

Joan Jett was the second opening act before Heart. Even at 60 Joan is still what you remember from 20 years ago. Singing the songs you know from her days with The Runaways and with The Blackhearts. Still getting down playing that guitar. Still has her edgy look that she had while breaking women into the rock scene.

As for the main act, Heart. I know they are in their 60’s (Nancy is 65 and Ann is 69). Nancy is still moving and jumping around playing the guitar and mandolin. However, the show was mellow. Mostly playing their ballads and it seemed anything Ann did not have to hold a high note for.  They performed Magic Man as the second song and it just wasn’t there vocally. Ann did not even attempt the closing of the song.

I feel I should mention that Heart does not allow any media photographers for any of their shows (same as last year). So I apologize that I have no pictures for you.  They also don’t allow pictures or video from fans as they had security shutting down everybody they could for using their phones.

If you’re a diehard Heart fan you will probably love the show if they come around again next year. Me, I’ll be staying home. Many bands are about their fans, but that isn’t the feeling I got from Heart.
