The Art of Cool ProjectAward winning pianist/composer, Eric Hirsh, will perform in Durham at Casbah, 1007 West Main Street, Durham, on Friday, May 17th, 2013. Doors open at 8:00pm. Show starts at 9:00pm. Advanced tickets are on sale starting at $8 online at They will be $10 on the day of the performance.

Mostly known here in Durham as one fourth of jazz/hip hop outfit, The Beast, and as the director of salsa juggernaut, Orquesta GarDel, Eric Hirsh is also an accomplished jazz pianist, composer, and arranger in his own right.

Hirsh is a 2012 recipient of the North Carolina Arts Council Composer Fellowship, and a four-time winner of the ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composers Awards. Beyond his undergraduate training in Physics and Music at UNC Chapel Hill, he has received additional instruction at the School of Improvisatory Music in Brooklyn, and the Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

For the close of The Art of Cool Project’s second season, Hirsh brings to Casbah a quartet of his closest musical friends for an evening of his original music and arrangements. Featuring drummer Stephen Coffman (The Beast, Peter Lamb and the Wolves), bassist Peter Kimosh (The Beast, Orquesta GarDel, Peter Lamb and the Wolves) and saxophonist Aaron Hill (Mint Julep Jazz Band).

Dedicated to increasing the visibility of the local vibrant, varied and surprisingly under-appreciated jazz and live music scene, The Art of Cool Project is a unique collaboration between the jazz and art communities to bring both creative mediums to supporters in an intimate concert setting. The live jazz performances showcase and stimulate the forward-focused creative thought that is occurring on the local jazz scene. The Project also has additional goals of solidifying the Triangle as a metropolitan area with a world-class defined jazz culture by bringing a Jazz Festival to Durham, as well as recognizing the need to keep jazz as part of America’s fabric by cultivating the genre in future generations. With its second year in existence, expect many exciting things to come from The Art of Cool Project.
