RETROFANTASMA AND RETROFATNASMA CLASSICS FILM SERIES ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE OF DOUBLE FEATURES FOR JANUARY THROUGH JUNE 2012
Durham, N.C. – The Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc., has announced the schedule for the RETROFANTASMA AND RETROFANTASMA CLASSICS FILM SERIES for January through July 2012. Retrofantasma is a monthly film series that screens double features of classic horror, genre and cult films. Retrofantasma Classics features genre films from the 50s through the 70s. Screenings take place at the Carolina Theatre of Durham, located at 309 W. Morgan Street in Downtown Durham. Double-feature tickets are $8 and are available at the theatre box office. New this year, fans can purchase season passes to Retro for $40, Retro Classics for $32 and a Super Double Bonus Pass for both series for $72. Passes can be purchased at the door or online at Ticketmaster.com or call 919.560.3030 to purchase passes or tickets. Box office hours are weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and one half hour prior to show time.
Created in 1998, RETROFANTASMA is dedicated to bringing classic horror, genre and cult movies back to the big screen in 35mm. RETRO began with a screening of Friday the 13th Part II on Friday, November 13, 1998. On October 30, 1999, the tradition of double features began with screenings of Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator. Since then, RETRO has screened over 175 classic horror movies while developing a large dedicated audience of movie enthusiasts. This diverse film series offers its audience a joyful jolt of terror and nostalgia. RETRO is one of the longest, continuously running, U.S. genre film series in the country.
RETROFANTASMA CLASSICS was born in July 2010 with a William Castle double feature of 13 Ghosts and Homicidal. These monthly double-features of genre films from the 1950s through the early 1970s includes the infamous gimmickry of William Castle, the magic of Ray Harryhausen and classic monster and giant bug films. Some of these films are considered masterpieces while others are simply great “bad” movies.
