Award-winning actor, singer, writer, and powerhouse of Russell Simmon’s HBO Def Poetry Series, DANIEL BEATY, launches the KickStart 2012 Series of Celebrity Philanthropists with his critically acclaimed solo tour de force, “EMERGENCY,” in which he performs the mesmerizing “KNOCK KNOCK.”
DANIEL BEATY and “EMERGENCY” have swept audiences off their feet around the world. “EMERGENCY” was hailed by Mark Denton of NYTheatre.com as “perhaps the most important new American drama since ‘Angels in America.’” Legendary actor of stage and screen, Ruby Dee, said, “Every now and then you see a performer who jolts the senses to attention. Daniel Beaty is one of them! DANIEL BEATY started his journey with a father who was a heroine addict and a brother who was a crack cocaine addict. He discovered his purpose in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King and graduated with honors from Yale University and American Conservatory Theatre.
SACRIFICIAL POETS, the internationally competing poetry organization founded at UNC-Chapel Hill, which is no! w North Carolina’s largest youth poetry group, will be the opening act. PIERCE FREELON, hip hop artist, journalist, front-man for The Beast, and professor at NCCU and UNC-Chapel Hill, will emcee the KickStart 2012 Series.
A portion of the net proceeds to go to SACRIFICIAL POETS and ST. JOSEPH’S HISTORIC FOUNDATION HAYTI HERITAGE CENTER.
