Downtown Durham Inc. will launch its free “Find Your Cool” Summer Concert Series at CCB Plaza, Thursday, May 9, 7 p.m. From soul to salsa, African to Americana, “the plaza with the bronze bull” will be bustling with local bands, locally-brewed beer from Bull City Burger and Brewery and people of all ages, ready to start the weekend a day early.
Golden Belt Launches “GB Live” Summer Concert Series May 17
Golden Belt will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a series of free outdoor concerts beginning Friday, May 17. While technically Golden Belt is more than 100 years old (the campus is an historic and sustainable restoration of a former textile mill) the concert series celebrates Golden Belt’s 5-year development into a vibrant multi-use campus (and we think, but we may be biased, the coolest place in Durham.)

Summerfest Opening Night launches your summer of music on May 25, featuring Play with the Pros.* Enjoy the evening as the Triangle’s most gifted citizen musicians of all ages join forces with Resident Conductor and Summerfest Artistic Director William Henry Curry and the North Carolina Symphony in a robust evening of classical masterpieces, including Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major, plus Ferdinand Hérold’s Zampa Overture, Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite, and Jean Sibelius’Finlandia.
WAYNE LEECHFORD AND FRIENDS TO PERFORM IN CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC MONTH
Wayne Leechford and Friends’ performance is one of hundreds taking place across the country this May as part of this second annual series. Last year, participants in all fifty states took part in events showcasing ensemble music of all styles, including classical, jazz, world, and early music, as well as contemporary and experimental works informed by emerging technologies and innovative performance techniques.

The Honeycutters Launch Kickstarter Campaign, CMT Show
The Honeycutters are, at the heart, the musical collaboration of singer/songwriter Amanda Anne Platt and lead guitarist/ producer Peter James. Mozart Meets McCartney
The talents of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Paul McCartney will collide as Voices (130-member choral group) performs “Mozart Meets McCartney” at Memorial Hall at UNC at 8 pm. They will perform Mozart’s Missa Brevis in F Major along with McCartney’s Ecce Cor Meum. Voices will be joined by a children’s choir and orchestra along with several soloists. Cantari (Voices select ensemble) will also sing a “Tribute To The Beatles” during this performance.
