Band Together NC Seeks Nominations for 2010 Charity Partner by Aug. 31

2009 Event Raised More Than $140,000 for the Lucy Daniels Center

Raleigh, N.C. (July 6, 2009) Band Together NC, a Triangle-based organization that aims to raise funds for select charities through events that showcase and support musical talent, is looking for its charity recipient for the 2010 Band Together concert. Following on the heels of a successful 2009 concert, organizers hope to not only increase the amount donated to its 2010 charity partner but also reach a total of $1 million donated to local organizations in the first decade since the organization’s inception.

Charities interested in applying to be the 2010 charity recipient may attend a Q&A session on Aug. 3 by e-mailing for an invitation, and must also meet the Aug. 31 deadline for applications. To be eligible, prospective charities must be recognized as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency. Band Together takes into consideration the percentage of funds that go directly to the charity’s programs, the nonprofit’s ability to engage its board of directors and supporters as part of event leadership, and the ability to make a meaningful difference to the charity’s recipients. Priority is given to nonprofits that serve the Triangle area and provide services without regard to a specific religious or political affiliation.

The last Band Together event, held June 6, 2009 at Lincoln Theatre in downtown Raleigh, featured performances by Chatham County Line, The Rosebuds, Rusted Root and Hobex. The approximately $140,000 raised for the Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood included funds from sponsorships, ticket sales, individual donations, a guitar raffle, and silent auction. The charity ensures that 100 percent of net proceeds raised goes to the charity recipient.

Band Together is run entirely by volunteer efforts. Past charities have included The Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood, SAFEchild, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle, Wake County Boys and Girls Clubs, The Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina for local and Gulf Coast Katrina Relief, Stop Hunger Now for Tsunami Relief, the Music Maker Relief Foundation, the NC Chapter of Operation Smile, Special Olympics North Carolina, and the 9/11 Survivor’s Fund.

Since Band Together’s inception nine years ago, the organization has helped raise more than $700,000 for area charities.
