Gala continues to draw support and donations of artwork for April 10 event. Proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity’s home building efforts.
Donations of artwork and time commitments from volunteers continue to arrive in support of the Art for Haiti Auction & Gala in April. All proceeds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to support humanitarian and earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. The Maddry Arts Foundation is coordinating the event, which is sponsored by Jerry’s Artarama, the Raleigh Convention Center, vitalink® and Centerplate.
Internationally known watercolorist Nicholas Simmons is the latest artist to donate work (pictured here) for the Art for Haiti Auction & Gala.
“The earthquake that devastated Haiti is a heartbreaking event that reminds us all of how fragile human life is on this planet,” says Simmons. “I have special feelings for the countries of the Caribbean, as they have inspired many of my paintings, including two recent gold medal winners. I have always been attracted to the light, color, and most especially to the people of this unique area of the world. I look forward to my next visit to Haiti, and hope that the donation of one of my artworks might contribute in some small way to its recovery.”
The artist most recently served as the only judge representing the Americas at the 2010 Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial, the largest watercolor exhibition in the world, where he is also exhibiting work. Simmons joins nationally known artists Bob Rankin and Eric Zener in his support of the event.
