The Raleigh Arts Commission, in partnership with Artspace and Visual Art Exchange, are collaborating together for the second year to bring outdoor public art to downtown Raleigh’s City Plaza!
Artists from North Carolina and the contiguous states of Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina are invited to submit work for the temporary one-year sculpture exhibition. This year’s show will open during the SPARKcon arts and creativity festival sponsored by Visual Arts Exchange, Sept. 16 – Sept.19.
Deadline for applications is June 7, 2010, at 5 p.m.
The work of three artists will be selected for the exhibition. The sculptures will be installed on concrete pedestals embedded in the three gateway planters on the Plaza. Artists will be paid a $2,000 honorarium, and the Arts Commission will provide an additional stipend for transportation and installation of the artists’ works.
To apply, artists must have lived in North Carolina or one of the contiguous states for at least a year and be 18 years or older. Applications must be submitted via the CaFÉ website: http://www.callforentry.org. There is no fee to apply. Additional information about Art on City Plaza, including submission guidelines, is available both at CaFÉ and at www.raleighnc.gov/arts or by contacting Gerald Bolas, public art coordinator, at gerald.bolas[at]raleighnc.gov or (919) 831-2414.
