SMASH HIT MUSICAL RENT COMING TO RALEIGH AMPHITHEATRE | JULY 2-3

RENT COMING RALEIGH AMPHITHEATRE

RENT RUN TO BE MOVED TO FLETCHER HALL

June 21, 2010–Raleigh, NC—The July 2 & 3 outdoor performances of the hit musical RENT have been canceled and will now take place indoors at Fletcher Hall. The move will keep those two days consistent with the rest of the run.  According to Jim Lavery, Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts General Manager, it became clear the costs associated with two completely different load-ins did not make sense. “Production at the downtown amphitheatre is still new for all of us and both venues have very different requirements to pull off the production to the expectations of our patrons. After further evaluation we decided it was in the best interest of this particular production to move the entire run inside.”  In addition a July 1 performance has been added. For patrons holding tickets to the July 2 & 3 performances previously scheduled for outdoors exchanges or refunds can be made at the box office.

RENT, presented by Broadway Under The Stars and City Stage of Wilmington will take place in Fletcher Hall, located in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, July 1-3, 8 – 10 and 15 – 17. The Broadway show received national acclaim and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize as well as multiple TONY® awards.

Tickets are $25 & $35 and are on sale by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visiting the Box Office, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Broadway under the Stars in conjunction with City Stage from Wilmington will present RENT July 2 & 3 at Raleigh’s new downtown amphitheater. This will be the first cultural arts offering at the area’s newest venue which opened May 28th. According to Producer/Director Justin Smith the opportunity to collaborate and present this iconic show in the Triangle’s newest setting is a once in a lifetime experience.

“We are so thrilled to be bringing this show to Raleigh and provide theatre lovers with a chance to experience this caliber of entertainment in a setting like no other.”

Following the outdoor performances additional shows will be available to patrons in Fletcher Hall, located in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, July 8,9,10 and 15,16,17. This will be one of the first productions of RENT ever performed in an amphitheater and will showcase the flexibility of the new Raleigh Amphitheater located in Downtown Raleigh adjacent to the Shimmer Wall at the New Raleigh Convention Center. The Broadway show received national acclaim and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize as well as multiple TONY® awards.

According to Smith “RENT is a modern day fairy tale of people pursuing their dreams, living their lives and cultivating relationships.  All of this told by the best characters and through some of the best music ever written for the stage.”

Local auditions for RENT will be held June 12 in Wilmington from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Roudabush building located on the corner of Front and Dock Streets.

On June 13 auditions will be held in Raleigh in Fletcher Hall located in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with callbacks starting at 3 p.m.

Actors need to bring headshots and resumes and prepare the song “Will I” for auditions. Interested actors should email rent2010raleigh[at]gmail.com for audition appointments. For more information log on to the City Stage Facebook page

  1. last night – front row – balcony – acoustics were HORRIBLE – couldn’t hear a word the actors were saying when music was playing…..

  2. I went to opening night….3rd row and the acoustics down there weren’t any better. I love the musical RENT but this seemed like a high school production.

  3. Just got back to Charlotte from seeing Rent at Fletcher Hall in Raleigh…we had awesome seats and had a wonderful time. You can tell this cast is really pouring their hearts into their performances, and I was completely engaged in the show. Bravo!
