North Carolina Symphony Provides Inside Look at Commissioning New Music

The North Carolina Symphony takes part in SPARKcon this weekend in downtown Raleigh with a free panel discussion on commissioning and creating new music. Led by Vice President for Artistic Operations and General Manager Scott Freck, the panel features celebrated composer Gareth Glyn, percussionist and founder of New Music Raleigh Shawn Galvin and Mallarmé Chamber Players Artistic Director Suzanne Rousso in a conversation on the path a piece takes from inception to debut.

The panel takes place at downtown Raleigh’s Flander’s Gallery (302 S. West St.) on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 3:00 p.m. A local composer showcase and chamber music concert follows the event.
