The Triangle’s 2011 fall social season will kick off on Saturday evening, September 17, 2011 with North Carolina Opera’s Gala, our largest fundraiser of the season. Set in the luxurious, internationally-recognized Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NCO’s inaugural gala promises to be one of the most talked about events of the year. With only 200 seats available-and over a third of the tickets already sold-this vibrant evening will include lively entertainment, performances by noted opera singers, fantastic food, a live and silent auction, and much more.

Robert Ward, a member of our Board of Directors, has been named one of this year’s four recipients of the National Endowment for the Arts Opera Honors, which is the most prestigious opera award the NEA grants!

Robert Ward is admired for his career as an American composer.  A respected conductor, administrator, and publishing executive, Ward is equally admired as an academic.

Hailey Best, who sang Flora in our 2011 production of Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, has been crowned Miss North Carolina!

She beat out 33 other contestants to be crowned at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh.

ABOUT North Carolina Opera was formed in 2010 from the merger of Capital Opera Raleigh and The Opera Company of North Carolina. It is dedicated to presenting operatic performances at the highest level throughout the Triangle. We also have a robust education program that brings opera to schools across Wake County and surrounding counties. North Carolina Opera brings international level artists to Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, and also engages the best in local Triangle talent.
