Musicians scheduled to appear in concert at The ArtsCenter during the next ten months garnered ten nominations in the 2013 International Bluegrass Music Awards announced on August 14, according to ArtsCenter Executive Director Art Menius. Menius served as the original executive director of IBMA from November 1985 through the end of 1990. He received from IBMA Print Media Personality of the Year in 1991 in Owensboro, Kentucky, and the Distinguished Achievement Award in Nashville 2008. Another ten IBMA nominees played at The ArtsCenter during the past year, Menius said.

Raleigh is the fourth city to host the awards. The professional membership of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), the trade association for the bluegrass music industry, votes on the Awards. Results of the balloting will be revealed at the International Bluegrass Music Awards on Thursday, September 26, hosted by the Steep Canyon Rangers. The Awards Show is the centerpiece of World of Bluegrass Week (#WOB13), to be held September 24 – 28 in Raleigh, NC, according to an IBMA press release.

Menius is scheduled to give a free lecture at the North Carolina Museum of History in downtown Raleigh on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. “Bluegrass Music: How North Carolinians Have Contributed” will be offered from 1:00 until 3:00 PM.
