Aaron was in NC February 28th at The Carolina Theatre Durham on his State I’m In tour. Preforming acoustic songs and telling stories how he got where he is today. Stories of his childhood in Vermont, his grandfather, his homeless days after graduating high school from Longmeadow Massachusetts (basically living on Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, Mass).
After years of playing with Staind, Aaron re-found his love of country while living on Bob’s (Kid Rock’s) bus while on tour with him. Bob playing CDs from Willie Nelson, Cash, Hank Williams and such on the tour bus. Remembering his days spent with his grandfather with country music alway in the background.
His first country song was actually a challenge from his plumber. The plumber said Aaron could never write a country song. Aaron took his guitar out on the steps and wrote Country Boy in twenty minutes.
The show was small and intimate. Selling out all 1,307 seats at The Carolina Theatre Durham. Aaron’s style runs along with the older country music of Willie Nelson and Hank Williams, not todays younger new rock/country. We did get to hear a few of his Staind ballads at the end of the show.
My being originally from Massachusetts, I have seen Aaron play with Staind all the way back in the club days. Nights at the Fat Cat in Springfield, Massachusetts. I remember years later, WCCC having Aaron on and playing Country Boy live on the radio. So here we are today with Aaron having 3 country albums (not counting the EP) to add to his 6 studio albums with Staind (if you don’t count Mudshuvel from the club days).
