Mexican actress Bianca Marroquin has replaced ailing 58-year-old supermodel and actress Christie Brinkley as former showgirl-turned-sexy jazz slayer Roxie Hart, who shoots her boyfriend three times when he tries to dump her and then tries to convince her husband to take the blame, in the national tour of legendary director and choreographer Bob Fosse’s Roaring Twenties musical, “Chicago,” which will play the Durham Performing Arts Center on July 31-Aug. 5.
National Association of Teachers of Singing, sponsor of the first National Music Theater Competition, has announced the eligibility and repertoire requirements for the competition, seeking the best emerging talent in the field beginning in 2012.
The season kicks off this summer with two youth conservatories of Disney’s The Jungle Book. Each conservatory has 38 local youth ages 8-18 and culminates with a weekend of performances.
