“The Dixie Swim Club” may be evidence that Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten’s wellspring of inspiration is beginning to run dry. When Jones Hope Wooten turn to a pregnant nun for guffaws, they have jumped the shark.
“Ether Steeds” mixes magic with melodrama in a coming-of-age story with supernatural overtones and lots of flashbacks, and Jess Jones as the coltish 17-year-old Skeeta makes the most memorable impression.
“The play fits nicely in the rooftop garden, and is strengthened by the surroundings,” claims director Steven Roten. “I hope that the audience will feel like they are a part of the world of the play while they enjoy the warm spring nights.”
In “The Dixie Swim Club,” director John C. McIlwee says, “Five women strengthen their enduring friendships by meeting in the same Outer Banks cottage on the same weekend every year to celebrate their college swim team’s success and ‘catch-up’ with their triumphs and tragedies.”
