“Wicked” is back by popular demand at the Durham Performing Arts Center for a four-week return engagement that runs May 2-6, 8-13, 15-20, and 22-27 in DPAC‘s 2,700-seat, state-of-the-art theater in the American Tobacco District in downtown Durham, NC. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked retells the story of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” from the viewpoint of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular.
For years, Triangle Theater Review has argued that the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area of North Carolina has the liveliest theater scene between Washington, DC, and Atlanta, GA.
